Tutorials: Monday –Friday before school
Course Description:
Throughout the year, students will be utilizing a variety of tools, strategies, and programs to improve reading comprehension, word attack skills, vocabulary, and reading fluency. Students will then work to apply the skills taught in the reading classroom to all academic and personal reading. In English, students will work on reading comprehension through literature, writing skills, and vocabulary.
Students will NOT be issued a textbook for this class.
Required Supplies
Students should bring the following items to class each day, unless otherwise instructed by the teacher:
·binder/folder for class handouts
·pencils
·blue/black pens
·red pens
·highlighters
·iPad
·ear buds
·personal reading book
“Eanes ISD Middle School teachers are committed to grading and assessing in the best interest of our students. We believe grades and assessments communicate content knowledge, guide instruction, and reveal opportunities for enrichment and intervention.”
The numerical grade for each nine weeks will be based on the following:
·60% Major (tests, major projects, etc.)
·40% Skills Development (quizzes, smaller projects, learning checks, etc.)
·0% Practice (preparatory class work, annotations, etc.).
A= 90-100 B= 80-89 C= 74-79 D= 70-74 F= 69 or below
*Progress Reports will be e-mailed to parents via Skyward if the student has a 74% or below.
Students are expected to foster a sense of responsibility by meeting assignment deadlines.
All students will have the opportunity to retest on major grades after completing the required remediation work and by scheduling time with his or her teacher. Students must complete the retesting process before the grading period ends. Students will earn the higher of the two grades after retesting.
All students are expected to conduct themselves in a courteous and attentive manner, following school and classroom rules. We will follow the Eanes ISD Student Code of Conduct.

Procedures
·Come to class with required materials (including a fully charged iPad)
·Be seated and ready to work when the bell rings.
·Begin the warm-up.
·Be ready to turn in any assignments that are due.
Main programs utilized for student achievement: Visualizing and Verbalizing, Read Naturally, Fast Forword, Just Words, Rewards, and Wilson Reading. Other supplementary may be used for re-teach and extra practice as needed to meet students' individual needs.
Progress Monitoring: Students will be given a weekly DIBELS reading comprehension and reading fluency probe. Results are graphed to show overall progress. The WADE is given as needed to students completing Wilson programs. All students will take the MAP and GRADE assessments at the beginning and end of the year
